A cheap headline fare is not always the cheapest trip. Here is how to read a local quote, what extras to expect, and when a price is too low to trust.

Ask for a fixed door-to-door price
A fixed quote for your postcode, date and vehicle type is easier to compare than a meter estimate. Get the same trip quoted by two or three listed operators. If one number is far below the others, ask what is missing: night rate, extra drop, parking, or a smaller car.
Common extras
- Night or Sunday rate.
- Additional passengers beyond the quoted vehicle.
- Child seats, extra stops or oversized luggage.
- Airport waiting time after the included window.
- Drop-off or short-stay parking at the terminal.
When a cheap fare is a warning
Unusually low prices sometimes mean the job will be passed to another driver, a smaller car will arrive, or the quote only covers part of the route. Prefer a licensed local firm that can explain the number in one sentence.
Tip. Pay the way the operator normally works. Many local firms take cash or card in the car. Be cautious if someone you have never spoken to asks for a large bank transfer before pickup.
How to compare quickly
Open the city or airport page, shortlist two or three companies, and send each the same message: date, flight time, postcode, passenger count and bags. The replies will tell you more than a price table — speed, clarity and whether they cover your zone.
A fair quote is one you understand before the car arrives. If the extras are a surprise, the price was never the price.
