How to book an airport taxi for a 4am flight
Early departures fail when the driver is booked too late, or nobody has confirmed the pickup window. Here is a simple way to lock in a local car the night before.
A 4am flight usually means a 1am or 2am pickup. Ride-hailing apps go quiet, surge prices appear, and street ranks are empty. A local airport taxi booked the day before is the more reliable option — if you give the operator the right details.
Work backwards from the flight, not the alarm
Start with the airline check-in close time, then add the drive, a buffer for traffic or a missed turning, and the time it takes to get everyone out of the house. For a 6am international departure from Heathrow, many families leave outer London around 3am. For a 4am domestic flight, the pickup can be closer to 1am.
- International flights: arrive 2.5 to 3 hours before departure.
- Domestic or short-haul: 2 hours is usually enough.
